Doctor or physician assistant
Idaho's Board of Medicine licenses doctors and physician assistants as of September 30, 2026.
A physician assistant, or PA, must work with an Idaho-licensed doctor. Their work together is set out in a written agreement. In some facilities, the facility's own care rules set this out instead. Rule checked September 30, 2026.
Ask the PA: “What care can you give me during this visit? Will a doctor also see me?”
Nurse practitioner
As of September 30, 2026, nurses and nurse practitioners receive their Idaho licences from the Board of Nursing.
Nurse practitioners have training beyond their nursing qualification. They may prescribe medicines within the limits of Idaho law, as of September 30, 2026.
They do not need a supervising doctor's agreement to prescribe in Idaho, as of September 30, 2026.
Ask whether the proposed care is within that person's training and licence.
Use the state's own search
The Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses, known as DOPL, provides a free Idaho licence search as of September 30, 2026.
Open the relevant board page below and use its licence-search link. Match the full name, profession and licence details.
Ask more than whether a licence exists
A clear public licence record does not measure how good someone's care is, and boards differ in what they publish.
Ask about experience with your health concern and how questions after treatment are handled.
Keep the name beside the plan
Write down the name and job of the person who reviewed your health.
Then ask who you can reach with a question after the visit.
